Passionate young tourism advocates in the far north are encouraged to be part of the Queensland Government’s Young Tourism Leaders Program.
Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said Round Two of the program was now open and locals were being urged to nominate a young tourism industry representative to be part of the program.
“The Young Tourism Leaders program is about inspiring the next generation of Queenslanders to consider a career in tourism,” Mr Crawford said.
“A career in tourism can be a ticket to travel the world and Queensland’s booming tourism industry provides a perfect opportunity for young people to forge a successful tourism career.
“The Young Tourism Leaders program will make the most of online platforms to connect these young Leaders with their audience, to influence and inspire young people to work in tourism.”
Joining Young Tourism Leader Caitlin Fullerton at Redlynch State College today, Mr Crawford said the program also provides senior school students the chance to hear from the Young Tourism Leaders about the rewarding and endless career opportunities in tourism.
“Part of the role of a Young Tourism Leader is to visit local schools to share their experiences of working in the industry,” Mr Crawford said.
“With Queensland’s tourism industry experiencing record international and national visitation, there really is no better time to explore a career in tourism.
“Tourism is a $23 billion industry which supports one in 11 jobs in Queensland and over the next three years we’re expecting an additional 20,000 new tourism jobs created here.
“Growing our tourism workforce has never been more important and that’s the core focus of the Queensland Government’s Advancing Tourism 2016-20 strategy.”
Nominations for Young Tourism Leaders close on Tuesday 11 July 2017, and can be made at https://youngtourismleaders.qld.gov.au/register.
